Giro - Other Markets

A selection of other bets that caught my eye..

Giro-logoI've done the Favourites and who I think will win the Sprints jersey, the KOM jersey, the Young Riders jersey and the Team Classification. This page will just be a collection of other miscellaneous markets that I see bets I like, and I hope to add more bets to it as the race goes on.

There's a lot of different bets on this page, I'm not saying by any means back them all, but have a look through, see which ones you agree with and stake accordingly.

Top 10 Finish

Ilnur Zakarin - 8/11 - Well I think he will possibly be pushing for a podium and should possibly be in the top 6 at least, so 8/11 to finish in the top 3 looks an alright bet to me. 2pts at 8/11

Nico Roche - 9/1 - Roche is normally a Vuelta time of the year rider, going well later in the year, but he has changed his preparation this year and has geared up for a strong ride in this race in support of Landa. He looked strong in Yorkshire and really should have won the race. He might find the two TTs later in the race tough going, but he can hold his own in the mountain stages and if riding towards the front of the race in support of Landa he should be finishing pretty high up regularly on stages and could sneak in to the top 10. At 9/1 I think he's worth a small bet.

Andrey Amador - I've already mentioned this in the Favourites preview, evens looks ok to me.

Overall Head to Heads

Majka to beat Pozzovivo and Kruijswijk to beat Scarponi - 2pts at evens on the double with PP

Giovanni Visconti to beat Andre Cardoso - 1.2pts at 5/6 with Bet 365

Gianluca Brambilla to beat John Darwin Atapuma - 2pts at 8/11 with bet365

Przemyslaw Niemiec to beat Igor Anton - 3pts at 8/11 with Bet365

Rider Stage Wins - How many stage wins will these riders achieve?

Ryder Hesjedal - no stage wins - 5pts at 8/15. I recommended this last year and despite coming 2nd in stage 19 and 20, the bet landed. I think it will be a winner also this year.

Damiano Cunego - no stage wins - 10pts at 1/3 - I recommended this last year and collected, more of the same this year.

Sergey Firsanov - no stage wins - 5pts at 2/5 - I think the Firsanov bandwagon has gotten out of control, he's had a few good results, but he's nothing special, this looks like free money to me.

Caleb Ewan - no stage wins - 3.5pts at 4/7 - I think he will struggle to beat Kittel in the first few stages and will struggle on the later stages, to a point that he may not even be in the race to contest the last sprints.

Points Head-to-Head

Jakub Mareczko to beat Caleb Ewan, 2pts at 7/4 - I think Marezcko could have a good race, but more importantly, I think Ewan may not finish the race. That would see Marezcko as winner, or if he doesn't finish either you get stakes back. I backed him at 7/4 a few days ago, he is now 5/4 but I think he is still worth a bet. 2pts win

Eduard Grosu to beat Alexander Porsev - 2pts at 11/10 - I'm looking forward to seeing how Grosu goes in this race, he was fancied to do well last year but got sick at the start of the race. I think he has the beating of Porsev and I think he can win this matchbet.

Team Classification

The team classification is always an interesting market to try to predict, you have the GC favourites teams like Astana and Sky who will have riders at the top of the GC and you will have teams like AG2R and Cannondale who may not have the GC winner in their ranks but will have a number of riders who will be finishing in the top 20 in a number of stages. Astana are the 11/10 favourites with Bet365 (10/11 with PP) and they sure look like solid favourites. Nibali will be up there on all the tough stages, Fuglsang, Scarpone, Kangert, Capecchi and Agnoli will be good support riders who can score highly for them too.

Movistar are 5/2 with PP (15/8 with 365) and they too should be right in the hunt for this prize. Valverde will be consistently in the top placings on the tough stages you'd think and with the likes of Visconti, Amador, Betancur, Herrada and Moreno I think they might actually have more strength in depth than Astana. AG2R are 7/1 and although I don't think Pozzovivo will be troubling the podium, he should be close to the front on the important stages. Kadri, Gretsche and Peraud might go ok too, but I can't see how they are so short in the betting and shorter than Sky.

Sky are 8/1 and I actually think they could go ok too - Landa looks like he will be winning a few stages and be right up there on a number of stages when it matters, Roche, Henao, Lopez, Nieve, Deignan and Boswell will put in big rides too and if there was e/w betting on the market I'd have said they are a little bit of value - but no one is offering e/w, it's win only.

Movistar are my picks for this though, I think the likes of Amador, Visconti and Betancur will deliver for them along with Valverde and Moreno. 2pts win at 3/1 on Betfair (or 5/2 with PP if you don't Betfair)

Team Classification Matchbets

Sky to beat AG2R - based on what I said above, Sky at Evens looks a nice bet to me. 1.5pts on that at Evens with PP

King of the Mountains Head to Head -

Alessandro de Marchi to beat Stefano Pirazzi - 3pts at 6/5 with PP
